We, in partnership with our supplier MBL, have come up with a cryovac pack for all of our fresh beef products that we believe is unique in the marketplace. It not only looks great, it’s functional as well. Whether the product is fresh or frozen the shelf life is extended substantially, fresh up to 3 weeks from packed-on date in the fridge(2 weeks for mince) and frozen up to 2 years from packed-on date in the freezer, with no risk of freezer burn.
Packaging in this way has also allowed us to dispense with the use of meat trays for all of our fresh beef products, therefore drastically reducing our packaging, and being much better for the environment. However we still require the use of meat trays for our sausages and hamburger patties as they need to be on a rigid surface to go through the cryovac machine. We are currently assessing the viability of a fully bio-degradable meat tray. Stay tuned.
With the fresh cryovac product there can occasionally be a gassy odour noticed when opening packs, this is completely natural and will dissipate quickly as the beef “blooms” up. It in no way means the beef is off and won’t effect eating quality, if you are un-certain please refer back to packed-on and use-by dates for fresh product that is un-frozen.
